Evan Walters – Double Vision

Welsh artist Evan Walters artwork originally began as portraiture of the working class of welsh life and soon developed characteristics of doubled appearance, double vision.

Walter work looked into our vision – in how we can see double and also he touches on the peripheral view.

Within the painting ‘Stout Man with Jug’ it shows that the males face in the painting was Walters fixation point, with everything around the point becoming doubled.

I’m really fascinated in Evan Walters style, he paints in horizontal brush strokes become thicker as they go further to the edge. Its interesting to see how another artist has perceived double vision (and peripheral), colour seems to be an aspects which adds to the effect.

I will need to start experimenting with colour in my own practice, being more expressive as a way to represent the peripheral vision.
